Photo taken by Russell Chatham, September 1971, at the McGuane Ranch, Deep Creek, Montana. Tom and I installed the big window behind me. The former owner had worked in Yellowstone Park and he saved this monumental window from the old Lake Hotel when it was torn down. Tom and I worked fast after cutting an immense hole in the side of the house with chainsaws. We put the window in backwards, mullions facing in, because we thought it looked better that way, a decision based as much on ignorance as aesthetics.
